Bridging the Gap Through Sports

Sport in Denmark is a national initiative designed to connect international citizens with the unique Danish association culture. We turn local sports clubs into welcoming communities for expats and their families.

The real-life network starts here

The Mission Behind the Project

Denmark attracts top international talent, but retaining them is a challenge. The number one reason expats leave prematurely is a lack of social integration and family unhappiness.

The Danish sports club (foreningslivet) is the ultimate shortcut to a local network. However, language barriers and cultural misunderstandings often keep internationals from joining.

Sport in Denmark was created to tear down these barriers. We provide local clubs with the toolkits they need to welcome internationals, and we provide expats with a safe, transparent platform to find their new sporting community. It is a win-win: expats get a local anchor, and clubs get passionate new members and volunteers.

A Joint Initiative by 7 Sports Federations

Sport in Denmark was founded as a joint initiative between seven national sports federations. Together, they united with a shared goal: to open the doors of local clubs and create a direct path into the Danish community.

The founding federations are:

  • Danish Cricket Federation (Dansk Cricket-Forbund)

  • Danish Curling Federation (Dansk Curling Forbund)

  • Floorball Denmark (Floorball Danmark)

  • Danish Hockey Union (Dansk Hockey Union)

  • Rugby Denmark (Rugby Danmark)

  • Danish Softball Federation (Dansk Softball Forbund)

  • Danish Squash Federation (Dansk Squash Forbund)

The vision

While we are starting with our seven founding partners, our vision does not stop here.

It is our clear ambition to continuously roll out the initiative to more sports, more local clubs, and more cities across the entire country. We are actively working on scaling the platform to help even more internationals find a local community. Stay tuned as we expand!

How to Join the Project

Currently, the Sport in Denmark project is exclusively open to clubs that are members of the seven founding federations.

If your club belongs to one of these federations and you want to be listed on the platform, please reach out directly to your national sports federation. They manage the onboarding process and will provide you with the access and toolkits you need to get started.
