Play Curling in Copenhagen

Curling clubs in Copenhagen keep places for people who have never played. Book a free trial session, in English, and turn up.

About Curling in Copenhagen

2 clubs play curling in Copenhagen: Gentofte Curling Club and Hvidovre Curling Club.

Gentofte Curling Club trains at Ved Stadion 8 on Thursdays. Teams include Beginner's Night and Kick-off course. Based in a dedicated ice hall at Gentofte Sportspark, just outside Copenhagen, the club welcomes everyone from complete beginners to competitive players. Hvidovre Curling Club trains at Frihedens Idrætscenter, Hvidovrevej 446, 2650 Hvidovre. Hvidovre Curling Club (HCC) is a Copenhagen-area curling club playing at Frihedens Idrætscenter in Hvidovre, where a four-lane curling hall opened in 2000.

Copenhagen here covers the city and the Capital Region, so the address may be in Gentofte, Hvidovre, Amager or Brønshøj rather than the centre.

Curling is an ice sport, so the season follows the rink: roughly autumn to spring. It is a good answer to a Danish January.

Danish sport is organised in foreninger — member-run clubs rather than commercial gyms. You pay a kontingent, usually once or twice a year, and that membership is what gives you training, coaching and a place in the club. A prøvetræning — a trial session — comes first, and it costs nothing.

Training times and free trial sessions

The first session is always free, and you do not need to speak Danish or have played before.

Good to know

Do I need to speak Danish?

No. You book in English, your confirmation email is in English, and every club listed here has signed up to a platform whose whole purpose is welcoming people who are new to Denmark. Training itself may still be in Danish — say that you are new and people switch.

Is the first session really free?

Yes. A trial session booked here costs nothing. You are not signing up for a membership by booking one, and nobody asks for card details.

What should I bring?

Warm layers you can bend and stretch in, and clean indoor trainers — the ice is unforgiving about outdoor soles. The club provides the stones and, usually, the sliders.

What happens after I book?

You get a confirmation email, and the club is told that you are coming. If you need to change the date or cancel, the email has a link for both.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. You can add one guest when you book, and they get their own invitation by email.

How does membership work in a Danish club?

Danish clubs are foreninger — member-run associations, not commercial gyms. After the free trial you join by paying a kontingent, usually once or twice a year, and that is what covers training and coaching for the season.

When can I start?

Curling is an ice sport, so the season follows the rink: roughly autumn to spring. It is a good answer to a Danish January.

Which areas does this page cover?

Copenhagen here means Copenhagen and the Capital Region: the clubs listed on this page train in the city itself and in Gentofte, Hvidovre, Amager and Brønshøj. If you live anywhere along an S-train line, one of them is probably closer than it looks on a map.
