More than a training session
Esbjerg Squash Klub is one of Denmark's oldest squash clubs, founded in 1979, and since 2010 it has had its home in central Esbjerg. It fields teams in the national team tournament and runs an open club night — the easiest way to meet the people you will be playing.
There are fewer clubs in Esbjerg than in Copenhagen, so the club that matches your sport has time for you. Club play is booked court time — arrange a match, play for forty-five minutes — and a match needs only two people, so it fits around an unpredictable week.
Danish clubs are foreninger — run by their members, not by a company — so you are part of the club, not a customer. Members can borrow rackets and balls, and indoor shoes are a must. Book your free session, come along once and ask your questions on the night.

Good to know
Do I need to speak Danish?
No. You book in English, and your confirmation email is in English too. Training itself may be in Danish — just ask, and people usually switch.
Is the first session really free?
Yes. A trial session booked here costs nothing. You are not signing up for a membership by booking one, and nobody asks for card details.
What should I bring?
Indoor trainers with non-marking soles and sportswear. Clubs can usually lend you a racket and will sell you a ball.
What happens after I book?
You get a confirmation email, and the club is told that you are coming. If you need to change the date or cancel, the email has a link for both.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. You can add one guest when you book, and they get their own invitation by email.
How does membership work in a Danish club?
Danish clubs are foreninger — member-run associations, not commercial gyms. After the free trial you join by paying a kontingent, usually once or twice a year, and that is what covers training and coaching for the season.
When can I start?
Squash is indoors and played all year round, so you can start in any month.
Which areas does this page cover?
Esbjerg has a large international community built around the harbour and the energy sector, and its clubs are used to it. The selection is smaller than in Copenhagen, but the welcome tends to be more personal.
