About Squash in Herning

2 clubs play squash in Herning: Herning Squash Klub and Sport 92.

Herning Squash Klub trains at Holingknuden 3. Sport 92 trains at Frølundvej 41, Hammerum, 7400 Herning on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Teams include Team Squash and Womens's Squash. Sport92 is a squash club in Hammerum, Herning, with approximately 150 members. The club plays at Hammerumhallen, where it has 6 modern courts.

Herning here means the Herning area, so a hall may be in Ikast-Brande, Karup or Sunds; the address on this page is the one to drive to.

Squash is indoors and played all year round, so you can start in any month.

A first squash session is you, one other player and a court for forty-five minutes. Someone shows you the service box, the tin and the lines, and after that it is rallies. Clubs usually pair a newcomer with a member who plays at a similar pace.

Danish sport is organised in foreninger — member-run clubs rather than commercial gyms. You pay a kontingent, usually once or twice a year, and that membership is what gives you training, coaching and a place in the club. A prøvetræning — a trial session — comes first, and it costs nothing.

Training times and free trial sessions

The first session is always free, and you do not need to speak Danish or have played before.

Good to know

Do I need to speak Danish?

No. You book in English, your confirmation email is in English, and every club listed here has signed up to a platform whose whole purpose is welcoming people who are new to Denmark. Training itself may still be in Danish — say that you are new and people switch.

Is the first session really free?

Yes. A trial session booked here costs nothing. You are not signing up for a membership by booking one, and nobody asks for card details.

What should I bring?

Indoor trainers with non-marking soles and sportswear. Clubs can usually lend you a racket and will sell you a ball.

What happens after I book?

You get a confirmation email, and the club is told that you are coming. If you need to change the date or cancel, the email has a link for both.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. You can add one guest when you book, and they get their own invitation by email.

How does membership work in a Danish club?

Danish clubs are foreninger — member-run associations, not commercial gyms. After the free trial you join by paying a kontingent, usually once or twice a year, and that is what covers training and coaching for the season.

When can I start?

Squash is indoors and played all year round, so you can start in any month.

Which areas does this page cover?

Herning here means the Herning area: the clubs on this page train in Herning itself and in Ikast-Brande, Karup and Sunds. It is a part of Denmark with an unusually strong club culture, and several of these clubs have more to offer a beginner than their size suggests.
